TRAFFIX for Windows runs on IBM/MS-DOS compatible micro-computers. It needs at least a 486 or Pentium (recommended) micro-processor and 16 Mb (32 Mb recommended) RAM to operate properly. Best performance is provided on machines with the higher CPU speeds (90 MHz or higher). Users must have a VGA monitor (color highly recommended). TRAFFIX for Windows is a 32-bit program; therefore, the operating system needs to be Windows95, Windows98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows ME or Windows XP. TRAFFIX for Windows is not designed to run under Windows 3.1. Some users have reported problems running it over Novell NT networks 1 .
While running, TRAFFIX for Windows creates and utilizes large files in the TEMP directory, (typically C:\Windows\TEMP). Users experiencing trouble opening or editing files with TRAFFIX, will want to insure that their TEMP directory has been cleaned and that there is adequate space. When saving Traffix data, users can compress the file in order to save storage space. Since maximum compression slows down the process of opening and closing this data, most beginning users of TRAFFIX working with relatively small networks (fewer than 20 nodes) will likely want to use the no compression mode and avoid the extra processing time related to the compression routines.
Traffix uses varying amounts of computer resources as it runs. The “dialog cache setting” under the files…preferences menu can effect how TRAFFIX handles the computer resources made available to it. See the Dialog Cache Setting on page 74 for more details.
