To view the sample database, do the following:
Click File to pull down the file menu (or click the
button and go to Step 3).
Click Open Database to bring up the Open File dialog box.
Double click on SAMPLE.TFX. After the file decompresses, the network will appear on the screen.
If the “Show All Database on Open” preference is not turned on, click the
button to show all of the sample network within the editing window.
Note: TRAFFIX™ for Windows places all data (network information, traffic volumes, paths, routes, parameters, titles, etc.) in a single database, which can become quite large. Therefore, a data compression feature is used to reduce the amount of disk storage space required. Three data compression modes are available for selection from the File menu:
No database compression
Standard database compression
Maximum database compression
Once selected, the compression mode stays in effect until a new selection is made.
There is a tradeoff between the amount of data compression and the speed at which the databases can be opened and closed. With no database compression, the files open and close quickly, but the data files are very large, requiring substantial disk space. With maximum database compression, the files are significantly smaller, but the time to open and close the databases is much longer, due to the decompression/compression process.
When the program is uncompressing the database, a circle icon is displayed which is progressively filled in as the process continues. When fully filled in, the particular uncompression process is complete. During compression the circle starts out fully filled in and is progressively cleared.
When the program is redrawing the network a world icon is displayed. A larger world icon is used to indicate when the redrawing process cannot be interrupted by the user. A smaller world icon is used to indicate when the user may interrupt the process with another command.
