Step 1. Determine Study Area

Select those critical intersections likely to be impacted by the proposed project and for which a level of service analysis and traffic forecasts are desired.

Identify gateways for traffic entering/leaving study area.

Zones are generally individual development projects but may include multi-use projects and multiple developments. Multiple developments with identical trip distribution percentages and paths to the gates may be combined into the same (single) zone. The impact fee analysis will treat the developments in the zone as a single unit.

Gather data on land uses, trip generation rates, trip distribution percentages, intersection lane geometry, signal timing, and turning movement traffic volumes.

If this is your first time using TRAFFIX™, start small, with a two or three node network with a few gates and zones before using TRAFFIX™ for a specific project. Once the network is created, the user should take the time to become familiar with the various pull-down menus, program buttons, drawing tools, and edit screens that can be accessed in TRAFFIX™.
