A section consists of one or more segments and is the lowest unit at which average speed and level of service will be calculated. If no sections are selected manually, TRAFFIX™ automatically will mark each segment as a separate section. Manual selection of sections allows the user to specify parts of a route longer than a segment for which a level of service can be obtained.
Running speeds and delays will be calculated individually for each segment and then added together to obtain segment totals. The ends of the route (the nodes designated with a “Begin” and an “End”) are assumed to be the ends of sections, regardless of what type of intersection they represent. Thus, a route can begin at jurisdictional boundaries, even if they do not coincide with the location of signalized intersections.
