Double click on a program shortcut icon you created, or select TRAFFIX™ for Windows from the Start…Programs menu.
Open a new database and give it an appropriate name (e.g., Rancho Verde - note that TRAFFIX™ will automatically add a “.TFX” extension if you don’t include it).
Select the Options…Global Data…Scenario…Edit Scenarios option to bring up the Scenario dialog box. Click the Scenario button and enter two scenario names (e.g., “Base Conditions” and “Mitigated Conditions”). This will allow us to have separate scenarios for “before” and “after” mitigation. Output printouts provide limited fields for scenario names, so it is recommended that you use brief names for these items, although TRAFFIX™ will accept long names if you wish. Click OK when finished.
Click the Command button and enter two data set names (e.g., “Base” and “Mitigated”). This lets us have different titles, different output & log files, and a different array of reports for each scenario. Click OK when finished.
Click the Geometry button and enter two geometry set names (e.g., “Existing geometry” and “Mitigated geometry”). This lets us have different intersection geometry for each scenario. Click OK when finished.
In the Scenarios drop-down field, select “Mitigated Conditions”. Then, in the Command drop-down field select “Mitigated” and in the Geometry drop-down field select “Mitigated Geometry”. This will associate the appropriate data sets with the Mitigated Conditions scenario. Click OK to exit.
Select the Options…Global Data…Parameters & Title option to bring up the Parameters & Title dialog box. (Optionally, right click for the Global Data pop-up menu and select Parameters & Title.) Enter the titles and parameters that are to be used for the current scenario. Choose “Yes” in the “Report Only Selected Intersections” drop-down box. Click OK when finished. For the Mitigated scenario enter new title information. Use the Options…Global Data…Parameters and Titles options to modify the parameters and titles as appropriate for the Mitigated scenario. Choose “Yes” in the “Report Only Selected Intersections” drop-down box. Switch back to the Base scenario.
Select the Options…Global Data…Reports option to bring up the Reports dialog box. (Optionally, right click on any blank space in the network window to access a pop-up menu with the Global Data options then select Reports.) Choose the reports that you want TRAFFIX™ to produce when the analysis of the current scenario is run. For the Base scenario of this example, turn off the Impact Fee and the Impact Fee (Base) reports. Keep all of the other reports on so you can see what they are like. (Normally, you will want to turn most of them off to minimize the amount of output you have to review.) Select the Mitigated scenario, select the Options…Global Data…Reports option, and turn off the Trip Generation, Trip Distribution, Turning Movements, Link Volumes, and Movements By Zone reports, leaving the others turned on. Switch back to the Base scenario.
Select the Options…Global Data…Output File option to bring up the Output File name dialog box. Enter the name of the output file to be used for the current scenario. It is recommended that you use the .OUT file extension for these files. This is the file that will contain the output reports after the analysis has been run. The default file name is TRAFFIX.OUT. Different file names can be specified for each scenario, because two separate Command data sets where defined in the Scenarios dialog box.
Select the Options…Global Data…Log File option to bring up the Log File name dialog box. Enter the name of the log file to be used for the current scenario. This is the file that will contain progress statements and error messages after the analysis has been run. The default file name is TRAFFIX.LOG. Again, different file names can be specified for each scenario, because two separate Command data sets where defined in the Scenarios dialog box.
