Step 2.4 Add Text Annotations

Text annotations are used to add street names, project names, and other helpful notes to the network. These annotations will appear on the screen and on printouts of the network.

  1. Select the text tool. Place the cursor approximately where you want to add text and click once. This will insert a blank text field. Reposition the field if necessary using LeftClick-Drag.

  2. To enter the desired text, place the cursor over the text field and RightClick to bring up a data entry dialog box. Enter the text and click OK. If desired, you can also use this dialog box to modify the font, color, and size of the text used.

  3. Continue placing as many annotations as desired. You can place all text fields and then go back and enter the appropriate text in each, or you can enter text in each field as you go along.

  4. The text field can be rotated to any desired position. With the text tool selected, point the cursor to right the end of the text field until a small semicircular arrow appears. Click and drag the end of the text field and observe that a line appears showing the new orientation of the text field. Release the mouse button when the desired orientation is achieved. It may take a little practice to perfect this procedure, and zooming in on the text field location may be helpful.
