1.5 PROGRAM OPERATION

TRAFFIX™ for Windows is launched from a Windows shortcut icon, or by selecting Start|Programs|TRAFFIX™ for Windows. It can be operated in both interactive and batch modes. In interactive mode, the user accesses the pull-down menus with the mouse or with Alt-? keystrokes. Alt-? keystrokes activate the menus at the top of the screen. In batch mode, the user can launch TRAFFIX™ (from the Windows Run command or the DOS prompt) to run a forecast on a specific scenario of a TRAFFIX™ for Windows database.

All data in TRAFFIX™ for Windows is associated with network items, which means that the user must first draw a network before data can be entered into TRAFFIX™. The network is then used to store and retrieve all input and output data. This network can be a single node, a series of isolated nodes, or a fully scaled link and node network representing an entire county.

TRAFFIX™ output files are 80 characters wide, ASCII format text files. These outputs can stand alone in a technical appendix, or they may be copied or imported directly into an engineering report.

TRAFFIX™ performs four functions critical to the impact evaluation of traffic engineering and land development projects: traffic forecasting, level of service analysis for intersections and arterials, mitigation, and impact fee calculation.
